Monsters Among Us

Mostly you can't find them because of

camouflage. The naked eye does not fix on

an innocent mask, so placid so calm.

Kindly smiles lure you into a false normal.

What did you expect to see?

A Frankenstein,

A Dracula or

the Wolfman?

Behind the closed gates lie a

minimal life bordered in shining wire.

Sleep with one eye open and hope to

keep a vigil, no candles, only the stalking

steps a whisper of boot steps across the floor.

What do you expect to see?

A blank gaze?

A face devoid of compassion or

the banality of evil?

Don't try to find them or look into

the eyes. It's a disrespect, an attack

upon these monsters.

The one standing in the grocery aisle.

The one praying beside you in the pew.

The same one living next door to you..
