Joshua Schriftman

Director

Joshua Schriftman writes and teaches writing classes, but he also has experience in marketing, construction, retail, sushi, and travel. Currently he teaches writing courses for the University of Miami. His past courses have covered writing for civic engagement, creative writing, literary theory, business writing, memoir, and travel writing; his past students have ranged from gifted third graders to union electricians to retired folks.  He earned his MA in literature from Virginia Tech and his MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of Pittsburgh. His fiction and essays have appeared in Flywheel Magazine, The Pinch, and The Ninth Letter, and he has won multiple awards for his innovative teaching methods. He also tutors at the University of Miami’s Writing Center, and through the graces of Exchange for Change and UM’s Department of English, he runs writing exchanges that bring diverse communities together.
